David Otterburn and his family run Ryeburn ice creams, based in Helmsley, Yorkshire.

Ryeburn of Helmsley found the perfect way to kick off their 30th anniversary celebrations by winning the First Flavour class at the ICA’s National Ice Cream Competition, with their mint choc chip flavour ice cream.

When they first started out in business it was a way of using up the surplus milk which they produced at their farm. Now they are pleased to be able to provide jobs for 12 people and offer a wide range of ice creams and sorbets.

When asked how it felt to win the award David said “It felt fantastic to win. When you’re up at 10’clock at night making ice cream, it really makes it all worth it.”

David also said how winning the award has offered some great publicity opportunities for Ryeburn of Helmsley "It's made so many more people aware of our products. We’ve had 3 interviews on the radio since winning the award as well as a lot of local PR which is always great for a business.”

Congratulations to David and all at Ryeburn of Helmsley!

1st Flavour for 2019 is Strawberry and we are looking forward to seeing who will scoop the award for that…
